Traveling all the way from the West Coast, they chose to celebrate their love with an intimate and adventurous East Coast elopement surrounded by their closest family and friends. Winter along the Maine coast has a quiet beauty to it. The air is crisp, the ocean feels endless, and everything slows down in the most peaceful way. Their chosen venue, the beautiful York Harbor Inn, was the perfect backdrop for their celebration. Nestled along the coastline, it offered cozy spaces for getting ready, breathtaking views, and the charm that makes coastal Maine such a magical place for weddings.
A Valentine’s Day Story Within a Story
One of the most emotional moments of the entire day happened before the ceremony even began. While Cora was getting ready, we discovered that another couple was staying in the same building at the inn. They were celebrating their 49th wedding anniversary—and the most incredible part? They had also been married on Valentine’s Day.
The moment everyone heard their story, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. It felt like such a beautiful and unexpected reminder of what marriage truly represents: decades of commitment, laughter, growth, and love. Seeing a couple celebrating nearly five decades together on the very day Cora and Tyler were beginning their own marriage was incredibly moving.
It was one of those serendipitous moments that you simply cannot plan—but somehow made the day feel even more meaningful.
An Intimate First Look
Before the ceremony, Cora and Tyler shared a quiet first look together. These moments are always some of my favorites to photograph because everything slows down. The nerves fade, the emotions take over, and couples get a moment together before the celebration begins.
When Tyler turned around and saw Cora for the first time, the emotion on both of their faces said everything. The excitement, the love, and the overwhelming realization that this was finally the day they would become husband and wife.
Despite the chilly February air, the warmth between them was undeniable.
A Winter Ceremony by the Maine Coast
Their ceremony took place outside, surrounded by their closest family and friends. It was definitely a cold Valentine’s Day along the Maine coast, but not a single person seemed to mind.Everyone gathered close together, bundled up, and completely focused on the two people standing at the center of it all.
There was something incredibly powerful about witnessing such an intimate ceremony. You could feel the love radiating not just between Cora and Tyler, but from every person standing there with them. Tears, smiles, quiet laughter—every emotion was present.
Moments like this remind me why I love photographing elopements so much. When the guest list is small and intentional, the emotions feel even more amplified. Every single person present plays an important role in the couple’s story. And it was so clear just how deeply loved these two are.
A Sweet Celebration (Literally)
After the ceremony, everyone gathered inside to warm up and celebrate with cake. There’s something so beautifully simple about ending an elopement ceremony with laughter, hugs, and dessert.
No rush. No pressure. Just joy.
Before the evening festivities began, the three of us snuck away for some portraits around the property.
This is always one of my favorite parts of any wedding day—the quiet time when couples finally get to breathe and just be together. The excitement of the ceremony has settled, the nerves are gone, and they can simply soak in the reality that they are officially married.
Celebrating the Beginning of Forever
After portraits, Cora and Tyler were excited to continue the celebration with dinner that evening surrounded by the people who had traveled to be there with them. Their elopement may have been intimate, but it was filled with so much love and meaning.
Traveling from the West Coast to the East Coast to start their marriage made the day feel like a true adventure. And now, they’ll always have these memories of their Valentine’s Day wedding in Maine. A beautiful reminder of where their forever began.
